We’ve settled back into the routine of daily life after a packed weekend of historic racing at Sydney Motorsport Park, which means it’s time to take a look back at all the fun we had and pore over the photos!
The 28th and 29th of November, 2015, saw us head to Sydney Motorsport Park to put on our final historic racing meeting of the year with a few hundred of our closest friends and race cars, and we had a ball!
The weekend saw us celebrate five decades of Formula Vee, unleash a maximum-capacity grid of Group S & T sportscars in an endurance race, welcome J, K and L back to the classic circuit and much, much more.
We were greeted by moody skies and periodic precipitation upon arriving at Sydney Motorsport Park, but that did little to dampen the happy banter filling the circuit as everyone got to work preparing their cars, catching up with friends and setting out for the weekend.
The event included a celebration of 50 years of Formula Vee and we were honoured by the incredible support of the category. Beautifully prepared cars filled the dedicated marquee and overflowed into the carports opposite, and the drivers put on some awe-inspiring racing throughout the weekend.
Thanks to the legends who joined in the celebrations, and to everyone involved in the racing and parade laps!
On Sunday morning we held a 20-lap feature endurance race for Groups S & T, including a driver change. The race itself was a lot of fun and closely-competed even at its extended duration. The driver change added another layer of spectacle to the event, and watching the action in pit lane during it was great fun.
Top marks to not only the drivers, but the cars for tackling this endurance and pulling it off with aplomb!
We were thrilled to spend the weekend with the men and women of J, K and L after a few events at the circuit without them. They put together magnificent grids and races that belied the cars’ lengthy careers, and we hope to see that become a trend continuing well into the future!
We were similarly thrilled to spend it with everyone who set aside their weekend, and surely many weekends in preparation beforehand, to coming racing with us. We feature a few grids at each meeting, but every single competitor, every pit crew member and supporter and every spectator who joins us is greatly appreciated.
Formula Ford, M & O, N, Q & R and Regularity, thanks for joining us and putting on a brilliant weekend’s racing! You put together a magnificent field for the weekend and it’s a great honour to run these events for, and with, you.
Speaking of the weekend’s racing, it was suitably impressive not only in the level of competition, but the cleanliness of driving. Good racing comes out of great respect and this was demonstrated each and every time the red light went out over the weekend.
Thank you for making HSRCA events safe, respectful and fun – and for doing so so with impressive consistency!
Thank you also for making the pits and paddock a fun place to take a break and do some very important socialising! Cars bring us together, but it’s our mates that make the weekends fun and rewarding, and there’s no better reminder of that than a wander through the pits and paddock at any one of our events.
They’re full of good friends enjoying the weekend together, while tinkering with and chatting about their beautifully-prepared race cars. Historic motorsport is unique in its openness, so if you join us at an event make sure to take advantage of that, get up close with your favourite cars and get to know the women and men who race and maintain them.
Finally, and most importantly, we wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the tireless support of volunteers. Your tireless, generous and expert contributions to these events are invaluable. You allow us to spend the weekend playing cars with our friends and keep us safe while we do it.
From everyone involved in the event, and the sport as a whole – THANK YOU!
With that, I think it’s time for some photos! Top up your beverages, settle in and enjoy the photos thanks to the many talented photographers who support the Club!
