The HSRCA proudly represented Parramatta Park’s motorsport history at CARnivale this Australia Day, displaying a magic collection of period and circuit appropriate historic race cars.
The display would not have been possible without the support of fellow enthusiasts who put in a great deal of effort bring their old race cars along and share the day with us. The display was made up by:
- Rob Harborow and the Maybach Mk1. An iconic Australian special with a Maybach engine brought up from Victoria by Bob especially for the day
- Todd Hamilton and the Ralt Mk IV. A Vincent-powered single seater similar to the first Ralt special that ran at Parramatta Park
- Ray Hangar and the Ralt RT4. One of over 180 RT4s built by the company, which together with the Ralt Vincent represented early and late model cars designed and built by Ron Tauranac
- Ross Hodgson and the MG TC Special. This car is based on the MG Special driven by George Pearse in the 1950s
- John Lackey and the MG Q-Type. This MG is powered by a supercharged 750cc motor and is one of a model that completed 125 miles in an hour at Brooklands in the 1930s
- Graeme Louk and the Cooper MG. This Cooper was built by combining a Cooper chassis with the engine from the Pearse MG so that it could compete with rear-engined Coopers
- Robert Phillips and the Cooper Mk V
- Robbie Rowe and the Bugatti Ford Day Special. A Ford V8-engined Bugatti that was campaigned by D. A. McLachlan in the ’50s
- Gosford Classic Museum lent the Singer 9, similar to equivalents that originally raced at Parramatta Park
Not only would we not have been able to do it without you, the day would not have been nearly as enjoyable without your company.
We enjoyed a friendly and buzzing atmosphere throughout the day, and it was heartening to see such interest in the cars and sport from those attending the Australia Day festivities in Parramatta Park. We look forward to next year’s event!
