Our guest speaker will be Basil van Rooyen. Brought up in South Africa and university educated as an engineer, Basil ran his own car performance tuning business, has always been an innovative engineer and still involves himself in “ interesting projects.”
His motorsport career started at the age of 18 when he first ventured into racing motor bikes. He soon moved over to racing cars, and has raced successfully in saloon cars, sports sedans, Can Am cars, sports racing cars, Formula Atlantics and Formula Ones.
Notably he raced in the UK briefly in a Mustang, and in the ʻ70s drove for Peter Brock’s team in the Sandown 500 and at Bathurst in the Toranas.
The meeting will be held at the Deniston Sports Club – 59 Chatham Road, West Ryde. Formalities start at 8:00pm but feel free to join us earlier for dinner and/or a drink.
