The September 2018 social night will be held on Wednesday the 19th at Denistone East Sports Club in West Ryde and celebrate the involvement of Ray Eldershaw in the many forms of motor racing. The evening will feature Ray as our guest speaker, backed up by the usual quality photographic presentation by Dave Williamson.
As a simple introduction, the words of his good friend Bob Britton of ‘Rennmax’ fame say it all. His mate ‘Ray is a real racer.’
Ray’s early profile skyrocketed with his preparation of the ex-Pete Geoghegan Holden ‘Humpy’ for Brian Muir. The car saw such success that it resulted in Brian first winning the driver to Europe award and the car being sold (with mechanic) to Max Stahl.
On Brian’s return home, Ray helped build the famous Scuderia Veloce Holden S4, which resulted in Brian again winning the driver to Europe award. In the meantime, Ray was forced to pull the pin on being a racing mechanic for Brian and others to enter another phase of his working life – working in real estate.
In a nutshell, Ray’s adventures started out in serious pushbike racing while still at school and stretch to his current preparation of the ‘Griffon’ racing Clubman, which he built and his son drives for him. A fascinating experience of speed-oriented escapades transpired in between times.
Formalities at the club will begin at 7.30pm, but why not arrive early for a good seat and partake of the bistro and bar with good company.
