We took a road trip to Goulburn over the 30th & 31st of March, to kick off the 2019 HSRCA historic motor sport season with a relaxed weekend of racing, regularity and super sprinting at the Autumn Festival. It’s time to look back at the event with a wrap up and a few photo galleries, so put your feet up, take a break from the real world and join us for a few minutes.
After weeks of seemingly endless rain in Sydney, Goulburn decided to switch things up and greeted us with a wet Saturday morning. This meant that the first few events went out for qualifying either in the rain or onto a wet circuit, keeping things interesting for competitors. While grey skies lingered and threatened, by mid-morning the rain had mostly left us, and the circuit began to dry. We were even blessed with a few rays of sun and the threat of blue skies, punctuated by a few showers, in the afternoon.
Sunday dawned clear, but replaced the rain with wind and cold. Comfortable enough, but hardly tropical, and not the quickest conditions for those searching for PBs.
The wonky weather did little to dissuade competitors, and we enjoyed two great days of competition as well as a private practice day on Friday kindly hosted by Wakefield Park. With thanks to our amazing volunteers as well as entrants’ respectful driving and beautifully-prepared machines, the program sang along smoothly all weekend long and we enjoyed great races, varied fields and interesting cars.
Groups L, M & O, Group N, Regularity, Formula Ford & Invited Q & R, Supersprint, Formula Vee and Group S put together strong grids and good events all weekend long. Thank you for your support. Thanks also to the family, friends and teams who support each other and the event.
Speaking of family and friends, our Wakefield Park meetings traditionally offer a more relaxed atmosphere, and are a good opportunity to take a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city to relax with friends. The 2019 Autumn Festival was no different, and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere in the pits and paddock, as well as the opportunity to relax socially outside of the event.
Most importantly, we would like to thank the many volunteers who support the HSRCA, our events, and the sport we all love. A huge amount of work goes into each and every event, and a historic race meeting would not be possible without the support of volunteers. Thank you for all that you do!
Thank you from Rod, Richard and the HSRCA committee for a most excellent Autumn Festival. We’re looking forward to doing it all over again at the HSRCA Sydney Classic over the weekend of June 8-9.
With that, let’s get stuck into the photos. Grab a drink, and spend a few minutes clicking through the following galleries and enjoying the work of the many talented photographers who cover our events.
