Following on from 2021’s celebration of Australian motor sport legend Ron Tauranac, the 2022 HSRCA Sydney Classic will see the club return to Sydney Motorsport Park over June 11-12 to show off the might of Australia’s tin top racing history.
The meeting will feature the iconic Group C and A touring cars of the Heritage Touring Cars series along with their direct descendants in the Australian 5 Litre Touring Cars series and the highly competitive racing of Group N touring cars. MG Racing Australia will return for another run with the club, bringing their unique and exciting mix of MG racing machinery, and there will be a full contingent of historic sports and race cars covering everything from the magic specials of J, K and L to the wings ‘n slicks racers of Q & R and a packed grid of Group S sports cars.
Spectator tickets are available online in the lead-up to the event by clicking this link to Eventbrite.
We are pleased to be joined once more by the Heritage Touring Cars series. The Legends of Bathurst recapture the golden age of Australian motorsport, racing iconic Group C and Group A touring cars around the country. These cars made history in races like the Bathurst 1000 and at circuits such as Lakeside and Sandown with legendary machinery like the Ford Sierra RS500, BMW 635CSi and the all conquering ‘Godzilla’, Nissan’s GT-R, which will compete with significant Commodores, Falcons, Toranas, Jaguars, Mustangs and more.
Complementing the Group C and A cars are the early V8 Supercars of the Australian 5 Litre Touring Car Association, which competed from 1993 to 2002. The legends of Group N have gone from strength to strength in recent years, consistently bringing out packed grids and producing competitive and exciting racing. With three touring car categories all set for a big weekend, the 2022 Sydney Classic is not to be missed by fans of the iconic Australian motorsport format.
MG Racing Australia has been a most welcome addition to HSRCA meetings in recent years, and we are thrilled to welcome the series back in 2022. The series comprises a huge range of race and sporting MGs, from the mighty 5.6-litre MG B GT V8, complete with full aerodynamic package, to works MG ZTs, a British Touring Car Championship MG ZS, the only factory MG SV-R in existence and more.
They’ll surely be joined by Group S drivers looking to make the most of the opportunity by doing double duty across both events. With Group S consistently hitting track density, their races are not to be missed either and will surely make their presence felt amongst all of the touring car muscle and mad MGs.
As always, we are honoured to be supported by all fifth category categories, and look forward to putting on a full schedule of events and quality track time for all groups. Make sure to spend some time at the various viewpoints around the track to catch the action from Group Q, O and M Sports and Racing Cars, Groups J, K and L, Formulas Vee and Ford, Regularity and Super Sprint, as well as the aforementioned groups.
Speaking of the action, that’s not all there is to enjoy at an HSRCA race meet. Historic motor sport is all about the cars and the community, and so the HSRCA welcomes spectators to get up close to the cars, meet their drivers and custodians and get involved. After enjoying the racing track side, take a wander through the pits and paddock to enjoy the magnificent display of motorsport history and have a chat with the people who run and support them.
COVID-19 vaccination is not a requirement of entry, but please do take care to practice social distancing and good hygiene.
The 2022 HSRCA Sydney Classic will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park June 11-12, 2022. Spectator tickets are available online in the lead-up to the event by clicking this link to Eventbrite, or you can purchase at the gate.
