2023 HSRCA New Year Historics Cancelled

It is with regret that we have made the decision to cancel the New Year Historics at Sydney Motorsport Park scheduled for 4-5 February, including private practice on Friday the 3rd, due to inadequate entries.

We must firstly thank Sydney Motorsport Park and the ARDC for waiving their right to a cancellation fee, this is much appreciated and saves the club a considerable payout. Our traditional two racing weekends remain booked at Sydney Motorsport Park, for your diaries:

• The Sydney Classic – 10-11 June
• Summer Festival – 25-26 November

When we held the New Year Historics at Wakefield Park in January 2022 it was well supported with 135 entries. With the shutdown of our beloved Goulburn circuit in July, we jumped in to book this February racing weekend, being the only weekend available at SMP – and it remains so, there are NO other weekends for racing events at Eastern Creek in 2023.

There has been some feedback that the North Circuit is not popular, although we would have hoped that a third HSRCA event anywhere in NSW in 2023 would have been well patronized. We will also learn from the fact that the date is close to our Summer Festival last month, and to Phillip Island – and would clash with the Bathurst 12 hour. Unfortunately, there are no other possibilities at present.

The committee, whilst influenced by the potential financial loss, were more concerned that the HSRCA would be committing our volunteers and officials to a full weekend of work for barely 50 paid entrants (at this time) with very small fields and in combined classes. Our intention always is to provide great racing events with plenty of track time for our members and competitors – c’est la vie.   

We will now turn our full attention to the Sydney Classic in June, and look forward to building on the success of last year’s event with another bumper meeting.
