Social Lunch with Michael Gasking, Tuesday April 16
April 16 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm
We are honoured to be joined by Michael Gasking for our April social luncheon on Tuesday the 16th at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club. Come along to hear from a man who was there, operating the dyno and performing final assembly of the engines that drove Repco Brabham to two drivers and a manufacturers championship in 1966 and 1967.
The man in the white coat, Repco Brabham in action, a phrase coined by the late Graham Howard as we discussed the life of the late Lex Davison, someone whom Graham had never met. This talk will go behind the scenes of Repco Brabham, a team that took on the best that the world had to offer for not one, but two fantastic years in Formula 1 in 1966 and 1967.
How did a small team with no motor sport experience take on the best?
It was a team effort. Chassis design by Australian Ron Tauranac, engine design by Phil Irving, Norm Wilson and John Judd. David Nash and Peter Holinger running the machine shop and bringing it all together, Frank Hallam’s liaison with Jack and the Repco Board. And the drivers of course.
Fix it, repair it, sort it, work with the power curves and gear ratios, win at the slowest possible speed.
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday April 16, with Michael’s talk beginning at 12:00pm and lunch following.
