2016 Spring Historics at Wakefield Park: Wrap-Up and Photo Galleries

Historic Racing at Wakefield Park

What a glorious Spring weekend! We’re back from two lovely days of historic racing at Wakefield Park, which means it’s time to catch up and enjoy a few photographs.

The HSRCA’s third meeting of 2016 was held at Wakefield Park over the 24th & 25th of September at Goulburn’s classic Wakefield Park circuit, and it was a stunner. The Spring meeting was a relaxed affair that focused on plenty of motorsport, including a Regularity team enduro race, and championship rounds for several groups within the Club.

Goulburn denied predictions of rain and put on perfect racing weather for us all weekend long. The countryside town supplied plenty of cool fresh air for the cars to breathe and the perfect amount of sunshine to warm the track surface and everyone out and about enjoying the action.

Our Spring historic meeting kicked off on Friday with practice, before settling into a steady racing groove on Saturday leading into race day Sunday. Thanks to the hard work of the volunteers who support us, entrants’ excellent preparation and respectful driving, proceedings ran extremely smoothly and kept the track singing.

The cars all looked, sounded and ran magnificently, and were driven with verve and vigor to match their period racing careers. The quality of driving throughout the field was excellent and contributed a great deal to the relaxed and respectful atmosphere of the meeting.

Both Regularity groups were very well supported, and put on fun regularity trials. This fun, safe and welcoming form of historic racing is an excellent way to get involved in motorsport, and we’re pleased to see it doing well.

Historic Touring Cars Association of NSW

On the more door-to-door end of competition were our two tin-top fields – The Group S Racing Association and Historic Touring Cars Association of NSW’s Goup N. Both put together excellent fields for rounds in their respective 2016 series, and with their championships late in the season racing was close, but respectful, and great fun to watch.

As were races in Formula Ford & Formula Vee, J, K & L Sports & Racing, Q, O & R Sports & Racing and Group M. Thanks to all of our drivers for putting in the preparation and maintenance to go racing, and for taking part in a positive, friendly and respectful way. We are very grateful for your support, and will continue to work to improve the experience of racing at our meetings.

Racing wouldn’t be much fun without mates, so the opportunity to catch up with friends and talk life, cars and everything is one we look forward to each time we take to the track.

The pits and paddock of Wakefield Park exuded a lovely relaxed atmosphere and was full of people catching up, tinkering with cars and chillin’ between races. And that’s just how it should be! Thanks for making motorsport the welcoming, social experience it should be.

If you’re new to historic motorsport and join the HSRCA, or any of our sister clubs around the country, at a historic meeting, make sure to take the time to wander the pits and paddock, check out the cars and chat with their custodians and drivers. We’re a friendly bunch who love to chat – especially when cars are involved!

We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without the support of dedicated, talented and selfless volunteers, so, as always, we finish on our most important thanks. THANK YOU on behalf of everyone involved for devoting your time and talents to this sport and its community, and allowing us to go racing in a safe and well-supported environment.

With that, let’s get to the photos! Take a few minutes to click through the links below and enjoy the photos contributed by the talented photographers who cover our events.
