With the situation in Sydney continuing to develop and opportunities to safely run motorsport in 2021 dwindling at best, it is with disappointment that we announce that the 2021 Summer Festival, previously planned for the 27-28th of November, has been cancelled.
We have been advised by Sydney Motorsport Park (ARDC) that the booking for our 2021 Summer Festival has been cancelled. The cancellation of all events in July and August saw some significant events pushed back into later in the year and ARDC decided that their other commitments to Supercars, state rounds and corporate events conducted by Driving Solutions, their in-house partner, should take priority.
Whilst this is most disappointing, COVID and lockdowns have made it difficult for circuit operators and the clubs who use them – it seems we do not have enough circuits! In this challenging environment, Sydney Motorsport Park must have regard to their more profitable (spectator) events and their obligations to larger events and series.
Plans for Alternative Racing Events Between Now and 2022
We have explored alternate dates for conducting racing events after the lockdown ends. There are no dates available at SMP this year (including nights), and very few days at Wakefield Park. We have made bookings as follows at Wakefield Park (subject to COVID restrictions):
- Friday 5th November, preceded by a Wakefield Park open track day on Thursday 4th, at which we expect to have HSRCA-grouped practice sessions. We will be able to gather for a meal or two with friends before or after racing. This should be a low-priced event being one day of racing plus a track day for practice (many of us might need it!)
- 28-30 January 2022 for a full HSRCA race meeting, to revive the memory of Amaroo Park (and Oran Park) Australia Day meetings – and the first historic event of the New Post-Covid Year! This will be the usual format of Friday private practice and two full days of racing
Regular Racing Event Dates for 2022
We have requested our usual dates at Wakefield Park (March and September) and Sydney Motorsport Park (June and December), which are awaiting confirmation.
Stay safe, and we will hopefully see you on track before long.
