We’re back in the real world after a soggy, but spectacular weekend’s historic motorsport.
After watching the weather throughout the week prior to the event, and each day seeing the sunshine, which at one point was set to appear in time for Saturday, pushed back into the week following, we rolled into Sydney Motorsport Park with a marvelous collection of historic racing and sports cars and a few hundred of our closest friends and got stuck into proceedings.
People sought cover in creative ways.
Whether they were in the pits and paddock, lined up on the dummy grid or full tilt out on the track.
And when it came down to it, the less-than-ideal weather didn’t have a hope of dampening anyone’s spirits, and the grounds of Sydney Motorsport Park were packed with people enjoying themselves doing Important Historic Motorsport Stuff. Like tinkering with their machines.
Enjoying their mates.
And giving it the beans.
It was our first event on Sydney Motorsport Park’s new extended Brabham layout.
And the quality of the competition throughout the weekend was outstanding; everyone did an incredible job of keeping things straight and on the black stuff and should be commended for their efforts!
And their bravery!
As should our committed crew of supremely-hardy spectators, who braved the elements to cheer everyone on and enjoy the spectacle of historic sports and racing cars doing what they do best.
And, most importantly, the many volunteers who selflessly offer their time and expertise, regardless of if they’re being baked by Sydney’s summer sunshine or, as it was this weekend, saturated on soggy Saturday and Sundays. To you we offer our most sincere gratitude and thanks – you make all of this possible.
We all had such a good weekend, that when the sun did finally deign to roll out of bed on Sunday afternoon and show its face, like a recalcitrant teenager, I think everyone was happy and satisfied, and ready to pack up, head home and begin counting sleeps until our next weekend together.
A huge ‘THANK YOU!’ to everyone involved! We can’t wait to catch up again soon.
